Women’s and Couples Therapy in Brooklyn

Frequently asked questions about relationship therapy at MLP Therapy Group

  • Many people reach out to therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or disconnected from themselves or their relationships. At MLP Therapy Group, we often work with clients who feel like they are holding everything together on the outside while struggling internally with anxiety, relationship stress, or major life transitions.

Therapy provides a space to slow down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and begin to understand the patterns underneath your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Together we explore what is keeping you stuck and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others so you can feel more grounded, connected, and confident.

  • Our therapists specialize in working with women and couples navigating challenges such as:

    • Anxiety and constant worry

    • Relationship and dating challenges

    • Communication struggles in partnerships

    • Life transitions like becoming a parent or career changes

    • Postpartum and motherhood adjustment

    • Trauma and painful past experiences

    • Self-esteem and body image concerns

Our goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply so you can move forward with clarity, compassion, and stronger relationships.

  • Many couples come to therapy feeling stuck in repeating arguments, emotional distance, or patterns where neither partner feels heard. Couples therapy helps partners slow down and understand what is happening beneath the surface of conflict.

In therapy, we work to identify relational patterns, improve communication, rebuild emotional safety, and help both partners feel understood. The goal is not to determine who is right, but to help couples reconnect and build a stronger, more supportive partnership.

  • Yes. The transition to motherhood, often called matrescence, can bring unexpected emotional challenges. Many new mothers experience anxiety, identity shifts, exhaustion, and feelings of isolation during this stage.

At MLP Therapy Group, we support women navigating postpartum changes and early parenthood. Therapy can help you process these experiences, reconnect with yourself, and find a healthier balance between caring for your child and caring for yourself.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most well-researched treatments for trauma. It uses bilateral stimulation, like guided eye movements, to help your brain reprocess stuck memories so they lose their emotional charge. Most clients are surprised by how quickly they feel a shift. We offer EMDR virtually, so you can do the work from a space where you already feel safe.

  • Finding the right therapist can feel similar to dating — the connection matters. Each therapist at MLP Therapy Group brings their own style, training, and personality to the work.

When you schedule a consultation, we will learn more about what you are going through and help match you with a therapist who feels like the best fit for your needs and goals.

  • Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and even EMDR. We offer both in-person sessions in Brooklyn and virtual sessions across New York and New Jersey, and many clients do a hybrid of both depending on their week.

  • MLP Therapy Group operates as an out-of-network provider. This allows us to tailor therapy to your needs without the restrictions often required by insurance companies.

At the end of each month, we provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many clients receive between 60–80% reimbursement depending on their out-of-network benefits.

We do offer sliding scale and want to work with you to make sure therapy can be accessible

  • The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and begin understanding what has brought you to therapy. Your therapist will ask questions about your current challenges, relationships, and personal history.

You are also encouraged to ask questions and share what you hope to gain from therapy. Our goal is to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable beginning this process.

  • It depends on what you're working on. Some people notice real shifts within the first month. Deeper trauma, longstanding relationship patterns, or complex anxiety can take longer. We work weekly and check in regularly on your goals so you're never left wondering if it's working.
